Harry Roque Hits Lavish Lifestyle of Politicians’ Children
HARRY ROQUE – The former Presidential Spokesperson has joined the growing number of people criticizing the so-called “nepo babies” — children of politicians and government contractors who openly flaunt their luxurious lifestyles online.
In a Facebook post on Friday, August 29, 2025, Roque said their way of living feels like “acid in the stomach.” He sarcastically noted that these children talk about “hardship,” but in reality, their biggest struggle is choosing which luxury car to park in their mansion’s garage.
Roque compared this to the daily struggles of ordinary Filipinos. While many parents work hard just to give their children school allowance, these privileged kids post photos on Instagram wearing Rolex watches and carrying Gucci bags. “Proud na proud sa kayamanang malinaw na hindi pinaghirapan ng sarili nilang pawis kundi ng buwis at proyekto ng bayan,” Roque said.

He added that what makes it worse is how these young elites are more eager to brag about their riches than to reflect on where the money really came from — and who actually paid for their luxuries.

The criticism comes as public anger intensifies over alleged corruption in government flood control projects, many of which have been linked to political dynasties and questionable contractors. This outrage grew even stronger when netizens discovered photos and posts of these “nepo babies” flaunting designer items and luxury vacations abroad.
The term “nepo babies” became popular on social media to describe the children of politicians who enjoy privileges and opportunities simply because of their family name. Many of them also end up inheriting political positions from their parents. Over time, the label has also been used for individuals in other industries who appear to succeed more because of family connections rather than talent or hard work.
