Female Teacher in Calatrava Accused of Romantic Ties w/ Girl Student

Calatrava Teacher Under Fire for Alleged Same-Sex Relationship w/ Student

CALATRAVA – A female secondary school teacher in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, is under investigation following allegations of a romantic relationship with one of her female students.

A secondary school teacher in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, is facing allegations of being in a romantic relationship with one of her female students. The matter came to light through a complainant who brought the issue to the attention of the Department of Education (DepEd) – Division of Negros Occidental.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Bacolod, Ian Arnold Arnaez, Public Information Officer of DepEd Negros Occidental, confirmed that a female complainant reported the alleged relationship between the teacher and the student. The complainant also claimed that the teacher had reportedly been involved in relationships with other students in the past.

Arnaez clarified that, as of now, no formal complaint has been filed against the teacher. However, the division has already initiated an initial investigation into the matter. He emphasized that a formal complaint would allow the issue to be thoroughly and officially investigated, ensuring that due process is observed.

Despite the allegations, the teacher continues to teach at the school pending further proceedings.

Arnaez emphasized that teachers are not allowed to engage in relationships with their students, as this is a clear violation of professional ethics. He added that, as government employees, educators are expected to strictly observe and uphold these ethical standards at all times.

He further pointed out that it reflects poorly on the school and the teaching profession when an educator is romantically involved with their own student. This, he said, could also compromise the learning environment and create situations of favoritism, bias, or abuse of authority.

The DepEd Division of Negros Occidental is expected to release further statements once more information is gathered and a formal complaint, if any, is lodged.

As the investigation continues, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries in educational settings, protecting both the welfare of students and the reputation of the teaching profession.
