Hungry Woman Saved After Crawling 300 Meters Inside Drainage Canal
ANOTHER IMBURNAL GIRL? – A 23-year-old woman from Cotabato Province was rescued after being trapped inside a drainage canal along Bula-Lagao Road in General Santos City.
According to a report from GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Monday, July 14, a tricycle driver noticed a hand appearing from the concrete of the canal. Hearing a woman crying and calling for help, he quickly sought assistance.
Responders from Barangay Bula, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and local police rushed to the scene. They carefully removed the canal’s heavy cover to reach the source of the cries. Two barangay personnel entered the canal and helped the woman out. At first, they thought she was a child due to her small frame. Once rescued, she was given immediate first aid and a breathing apparatus as she struggled to breathe, then brought to a hospital for further treatment.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the woman had earlier gone swimming in the nearby sea. She entered the drainage canal reportedly in search of food. It was also found that she had crawled nearly 300 meters inside the narrow canal before being found.

Thankfully, the woman was declared safe and did not suffer any serious physical injuries. Authorities praised the quick response of the local driver and rescue teams, which prevented a possible tragedy.

This is not the first time such an incident has happened. Just recently, a woman named Rose was pictured crawling out of a drainage canal. In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided her with financial aid, which received negative reactions from netizens. It was later discovered that she had been using illegal drugs, prompting her rehabilitation.
