Sol Aragones and DILG’s Jonvic Remulla Criticized for Being Unprofessional Over Calamity-Related Announcements

Netizens Slam Sol Aragones and DILG’s Jonvic Remulla

SOL ARAGONES – The Laguna Governor faced public criticism after posting what many described as a misleading announcement about class schedules amid severe weather conditions on July 20, 2025.

On her official Facebook page, she wrote in a playful tone that classes would resume the following day, Monday, July 21, stating, “Walang Magpupuyat! May Pasok Na Bukas! July 21, 2025 [Monday]! All Levels! Public and Private Province-wide.”

While some appreciated the early announcement, many pointed out that the tone was confusing and unprofessional—especially for an official government communication. Netizens reminded Aragones that public announcements should be clear, respectful, and free of jokes. They emphasized that information regarding class suspensions should be direct and accurate, particularly during natural disasters. Following the backlash, subsequent posts from Aragones’ office adopted a more serious and appropriate tone.

Shortly after, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla also drew criticism for the way he communicated class suspensions. On July 23, he posted a casual and humorous message on the DILG’s official Facebook page, beginning with “Mga Abangers, Sarap ng bogchi ko…” implying he had just eaten and napped before making the announcement. The post was widely condemned for being inappropriate and unprofessional, especially as many areas of the country were dealing with severe flooding and continuous rain.

Critics argued that using the DILG’s official platform to make light of a serious situation undermined the gravity of the crisis. Many reminded Remulla and the agency’s communications team that lives were at stake, and government announcements should reflect the urgency and seriousness required during times of calamity.

Earlier, Remulla also posted a message directed at Governor Aragones, calling her his “new BFF” and joking about her earlier announcement. The exchange continued publicly, with Aragones responding in a similar tone, prompting further questions from the public about the professionalism of both officials during an emergency.
