Sharlene to BINI Bashers: “Bakit kaya ang daming taong nagrereact at humuhusga”
SHARLENE SAN PEDRO – The actress came to the defense of P-pop girl group BINI after the members were criticized online for their reactions while trying various Filipino street foods on the international YouTube show “People vs. Food.”
In the video, BINI members — Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena — were seen tasting popular local street snacks such as Betamax (grilled pork or chicken blood), isaw (grilled pork intestines), hopiang baboy, kwek-kwek, and balut (fertilized duck egg). Some admitted they had never tried certain items before, and a few were visibly uncomfortable.
For instance, Jhoanna and Sheena hesitated with the Betamax. Sheena tried to motivate herself by saying, “Just think of it as chocolate,” but later said, “I don’t think I can. I don’t want to.” Colet and Gwen also weren’t fans of some dishes, while Aiah said she genuinely enjoyed what she tried.

The mixed reactions drew criticism from some netizens, who accused the group of being “dramatic,” “fake,” or “trying too hard to act like K-pop idols.” Others questioned why they didn’t appreciate Filipino food, with some calling them “entitled.”
Sharlene spoke up on X (formerly Twitter), calling out the quick judgment based only on a short video. She urged people to watch the full episode before forming opinions.

Her post received support from fans who agreed that food preferences are personal and don’t reflect one’s patriotism.
