Senator Robin Padilla Tightens Security After Online Threat
ROBIN PADILLA – The senator has tightened his security — not just for himself but also for his family — after a disturbing social media event titled “Sunugin si Robin” spread online. The event was apparently created in response to Padilla’s bold remark that even if he were burned, he would still “smell like Duterte.”
In a Facebook post on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Padilla shared that his entire family was deeply worried about the online threat. Because of this, they raised their security level to red alert and limited their public activities. Authorities had warned that such online posts could be taken advantage of by groups with bad intentions, including terrorists.
The senator said his family coordinated with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to officially report the threat. However, they later decided not to file a formal complaint. According to Padilla, while the threat was serious, getting into a legal fight over it might not look good for a public figure like him.

“Dahil hindi mainam sa isang pulitiko ang maging balat sibuyas,” he explained. His family agreed it was better to stay focused on their safety rather than escalate the issue legally. The main reason they went to the NBI was to make sure the threat was documented and known to authorities.
The controversial online event gained attention after Padilla said in an earlier statement: “’Di ba malinaw naman siguro ‘yon? Kahit sunugin mo ‘ko dito, mangangamoy Rodrigo Roa Duterte ako.” This was seen by many as a strong show of loyalty to the former president, which sparked mixed reactions online.

As of now, one Facebook event calling to “burn” the senator has already gained over 64,000 interested users, raising concerns about how quickly online content can spread and how it can affect public figures and their families.
