SC Releases Decision over VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Complaint
SARA DUTERTE – The Supreme Court declared the impeachment complaint against the Vice President “unconstitutional”.
The impeachment process against Vice Pres. Duterte have gathered different reactions from the Filipino people. It was last February when the Vice President was impeached by the House of Representatives. The Duterte camp believes that the Marcos administration allegedly wants to remove the Vice President from office.

The 4th impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was transmitted to the Senate. Before the 19th Congress adjourned, the Senate, as an impeachment court, decided to remand the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President to the House of Representatives.

The Senate impeachment court sought clarification over the issue of the constitutionality of the impeachment complaint against Duterte. Here are the senator judges who supported and opposed the motion to remand the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives:

Previously, Senator Joel Villanueva claimed that some senators agree to start the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte on August 4. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero maintained that the Senate impeachment court will not rush the process despite the calls to immediately start the trial.

According to Atty. Ruth Castelo, the spokesperson of the OVP, the Philippine government will allegedly be able to save millions of money if the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will be dismissed. If the process proceeds to the trial, Castelo assured that the Vice President is ready.
Amid the calls for him to inhibit from the trial over “biased” allegations, Senate Pres. Escudero junked the idea. He previously stressed that the impeachment court can dismiss a case even without the trial.
Recently, the Supreme Court released its verdict on the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, SC spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting announced that the court found the impeachment complaint against the Vice President “unconstitutional”.
The SC ruling is on the petition of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Atty. Israelito Torreon, and several others seeking for the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President to be declared null and void. The camp of Duterte has yet to issue a statement on the verdict of the court.
Amid the accusations, Pres. Bongbong Marcos previously claimed that he has no role in the impeachment process against Vice Pres. Duterte.
