Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Thanks Supporters Following SC Declaring Impeachment Complaint “Unconstitutional”

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President stressed that “our country deserves better” and thanked her supporters following the Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment case against her.

The Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Duterte was declared “unconstitutional” by the Supreme Court. According to the court, the impeachment complaint against the Vice President did not follow the one-year rule in the Constitution with regards to impeachment cases. The court also found that Duterte was denied of her right to due process.

Despite the ruling, the Supreme Court clarified that its decision does not dismisses the impeachment charges against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. It is in response to the petition filed by Duterte, Atty. Israelito Torreon, and many others seeking for the dismissal of the impeachment against the Vice President.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte broke her silence on the ruling of the Supreme Court on the impeachment complaint against her. Based on a report on GMA News, the second-highest official in the government stressed that the country deserves better.

“Our country deserves better, and we shall stand tall, strong, and resilient against leaders whose greed will bring down our homeland. We deserve better,” Duterte said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also thanked the parents, children, and her silent supporters who offered prayers for justice for her. According to the Vice President, the quiet faith of those who prayed for her lifted her up. She also expressed her gratitude to the petitioners “for having the conviction to challenge the abuses of the House of Representatives”.

Based on the report, Duterte also thanked the members of her defense team. She cited that her lawyers took her even when no one else was willing to be on her side. Previously, the Vice President’s camp said they remain ready to address the allegations against her in the proper forum.

Following the decision of the Supreme Court, there are doubts and speculations as to whether or not the impeachment trial of the Vice President will proceed. Previously, the Atty. Regie Tongol, the spokesperson of the Senate, said the senators will vote on whether or not to push through with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero also recently spoke on the decision of the Senate on the Supreme Court ruling of the impeachment articles against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
