Sen. Raffy Tulfo Wants VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial To Push Through
RAFFY TULFO – The Senator revealed that he is against a possible motion seeking for the dismissal of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment case.
Amid more Filipinos wanting Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to answer to the impeachment charges, there are also doubts on whether or not the impeachment trial will push through or not. The senators also have different sides on the matter.
The Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was returned by the Senate impeachment court to the House of Representatives. It was over the questions of constitutionality. The Senate also sought a reconfirmation from the 20th Congress.
Eighteen (18) senator judges were in favor of the motion to remand Duterte’s impeachment to the House. Five (5) senator judges opposed the motion. Former Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel and Sen. Risa Hontiveros claimed that there is no “return” in the law.

The senators have different takes on the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Recently, Sen. Raffy Tulfo aired his side on the matter. Based on a report on GMA News, the Senator is against the dismissal of the impeachment case without a trial.
Sen. Raffy Tulfo believes that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte should be given the chance to clear her name as she claims that she is allegedly innocent from the accusations against her. According to the Senator, it would be better if she gets to clear her name through a trial.
“Gustong gusto ko matuloy ang impeachment [trial] para mabigyan natin ng pagkakataon si VP Sara na maisabi niya ‘yung kanyang side. Mas maganda diba ma-clear niya ang name niya sa pamamagitan ng pagdidpensya niya doon sa impeachment at mapapatunayan na inosente siya as opposed to ‘yung mababasura before na magkaroon ng hearing sa impeachment,” Tulfo said.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously claimed that the Senate impeachment court can allegedly dismiss Duterte’s case by a simple majority vote. He also claimed that the dismissal can happen even before a trial.
Based on the report, Sen. Raffy Tulfo said he is consulting former Supreme Court and Sandiganbayan justices for legal advice so he can “make intelligent decisions at the end of the day”. He wants the impeachment trial to push through.
“Kasi for now sinasabi nga niya na inosente siya, so let her prove it na inosente siya. Mas maganda ‘yung ma-prove niya na inosente siya sa pamamagitan ng trial,” the Senator said.
Aside from Tulfo, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian also believes that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte should push through.
