OVP Spox Says PH To Save Millions of Money If Sara Duterte Impeachment Case Dismissed

Spokesperson of OVP Issues Statement on Duterte’s Impeachment Case

OVP – The spokesperson of the Office of the Vice President spoke on the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is faced with a looming impeachment trial. However, with the recent developments on the case, countless people are now in doubt if the trial will really push through or not. The latest Social Weather Station or SWS survey result showed that Vice Pres. Duterte should answer to the impeachment charges against her.

Duterte is surrounding the issues and allegations about her alleged misuse of the confidential funds of the OVP and the Department of Education when she was the DepEd secretary. However, prior to her impeachment by the House of Representatives last February, the Vice President ditched several hearings held by the lower chamber.

However, recently, the Senate impeachment court made an unexpected move of returning the Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives. Eighteen (18) senator judges voted in favor of the remand of Duterte’s impeachment and only five (5) senator judges opposed the motion.

Recently, Atty. Ruth Castelo, the OVP spokesperson, spoke on the impeachment charges against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, Castelo claimed that the Vice President is allegedly ready in case the Supreme Court rules in favor of the impeachment trial.

The OVP Spox said that if the Supreme Court rules to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the Philippines will be allegedly in a fortunate situation. She stressed that the country will supposedly be able to save millions of money instead of spending it on the trial of the Vice President.

“If it’s not, if the Supreme Court says it cannot be heard at this time, then we’ll be very lucky actually as a country because we’ll save millions and millions of money on the trial that is technically defective from the beginning,” the OVP Spox said.

Atty. Ruth Castelo further expressed that it is fine if the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will not happen. Based on the report, the OVP Spox claimed that it is just right for the resources of the country not to be used in the impeachment trial of the Vice President.

“Mas marami tayong kailangan na paggastahan kaysa sa trial na matetechnical din sa dulo,” Castelo expressed.

Amid the desire of the Duterte ally senators for the impeachment case against the Vice President to be dismissed, Sen. Risa Hontiveros previously stressed that the Senate impeachment court already has the jurisdiction over Duterte’s impeachment case. She confirmed that she will block the motion that will seek the sides of the senators on whether they want to push through with the trial or not.
