Nurse Hannah: Top 7 in Board Exam Despite 6 Illnesses

The Story of Nurse Hannah

Instead of giving up, Nurse Hannah Katrice Beduya Blastique used her struggles as motivation to push even harder. Despite suffering from six health issues just before her board exams, she ranked Top 7 in the May 2025 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination (PNLE).

A graduate of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, Hannah shared in an interview with Balita that she originally dreamed of becoming a fashion or interior designer. However, she chose nursing for practical reasons. Little did she know that her path to becoming a nurse would test not only her intellect but also her physical strength.

During the final month of her review in April 2025, Hannah was diagnosed with amoebiasis, urinary tract infection (UTI), insomnia, a renal cyst, influenza, and dengue—some of which overlapped. She shared a detailed timeline: amoebiasis (April 6–18), flu (April 8–14), UTI (April 13–22), irritable bowel syndrome or IBS (April 16), renal cyst (April 18), and dengue (April 23–May 1).

She admitted that this period, which should have been her most focused review time, became her most physically draining. Still, when her parents asked if she wanted to postpone the exam, she didn’t hesitate—she went through with it.

To her surprise, not only did she pass, but she also earned a spot in the top 10, ranking Top 7 nationwide.

Today, Nurse Hannah is recovering well. Her insomnia is manageable, and her renal cyst is benign. She is currently prioritizing rest and wellness before looking for a job, recognizing how demanding the nursing profession can be.

Meanwhile, in the May 2025 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination (PNLE), a total of 10,770 nursing graduates from across the country took the exam. Of these examinees, 6,935 successfully passed, resulting in a national passing rate of 64.39%.
