Old Sock of Michael Jackson Auctioned for $8K
MICHAEL JACKSON – A white sock once worn by the late “King of Pop” was sold for over $8,000 at an auction in France.
This was not an ordinary sock—it was shiny and decorated with rhinestones, which were part of Jackson’s well-known stage outfit. A staff member found the sock near Jackson’s dressing room after a concert in Nimes, a city in southern France, back in July 1997. Today, the sock has faded in color, has visible stains, and the rhinestones have turned yellow over time. Despite its worn condition, it is still considered a special item by many fans.
Jackson wore the sock during his “HIStory World Tour” in 1997. He can be seen wearing it in video clips of his performance of the famous song “Billie Jean.” According to auctioneer Aurore Illy, the sock is a rare and meaningful item for fans. It was originally expected to sell for around €3,000 to €4,000 (approximately $3,400 to $4,500), but it was eventually sold for €7,688, or about $8,822, during the auction on July 30 in Nimes.

Michael Jackson, often called the “King of Pop,” was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. He was an American singer, dancer, and songwriter who began his career as a child with his brothers in the Jackson 5. He later launched a solo career and became one of the most successful and influential performers in music history. Jackson is known for his record-breaking songs like “Thriller,” “Beat It,” and “Smooth Criminal,” as well as his unique dance moves, especially the moonwalk.

Although he was admired worldwide, Jackson also faced controversies, including accusations of child abuse, which he and his estate firmly denied. On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson passed away at the age of 50 due to an accidental overdose of a powerful sleep medication given by his doctor.
