Lady Netizen Frustrated Over Lack of Free Anti-Rabies Vaccine in Public Health Centers for Some Cases
A concerned netizen expressed her frustration after learning that free anti-rabies vaccines were not available in public city health centers for certain cases.
Recently, Facebook user Elizabeth Santiago, a resident of Bacolod City, was surprised that individuals classified under Category 2 exposure to rabies were not eligible for free treatment. Only those under Category 3, which involves more serious bites, were reportedly given access to free vaccines.
Elizabeth shared how she visited a city health center expecting free treatment, only to be told that she needed to buy the vaccine herself. According to her, a single dose costs around P440, and with multiple sessions required, the total cost can be too much for some families to handle.

Santiago also pointed out that even the syringe must be bought separately. She further explained her disappointment, saying she had been contributing to PhilHealth for years but had never used any of its services and now, when she needed assistance, even something as essential as an anti-rabies shot was not covered.
The lady netizen said that this kind of experience might discourage others from getting vaccinated, which could lead to more rabies-related deaths. Many people, especially those struggling financially, might choose to ignore their symptoms simply because they can’t afford medication.
