Sen. Imee Marcos Speaks on Upcoming Absence at PBBM’s 4th SONA
IMEE MARCOS – The presidential sister and Senator confirmed that she will skip the 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, along with her colleagues in the Duterte bloc.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos is set to deliver his 4th SONA at the Batasang Pambansa this afternoon. Members of the Congress are expected to grace this important annual event wherein the Chief Executive will deliver a report to the Filipinos about the status of the country.
The Presidential Communications Office or PCO confirmed earlier today that the President has finished rehearsing his speech for the Marcos SONA 2025. It is dependent on the weather if PBBM will take a chopper going to Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
It is still unclear on who might make it or not to the important annual event until it is finally over. However, ahead of the SONA, there are known political personalities who already confirmed their absence to the event. Presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos is one of those who will not attend the 4th SONA of her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
Sen. Imee Marcos is part of the Duterte bloc. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, she stands with the Duterte bloc and some of her colleagues in their group will also not attend the 4th SONA of Pres. Bongbong Marcos this afternoon.
According to Senator Imee, she has planned to distribute relief goods instead to the typhoon victims. She denied that her decision to skip the annual address of her brother is allegedly due to her ties with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
“Hindi, nakikiisa lamang ako sa Duterte Bloc po at hindi naman talaga pupunta,” the Senator said.
Based on the report, aside from Sen. Imee Marcos, Duterte-ally senators Bong Go, Robin Padilla, and Bato dela Rosa will also skip the Marcos SONA 2025. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte herself previously confirmed that she will ditch the President’s SONA again.
In 2024, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte skipped the SONA of Marcos Jr. and refused to watch it on television or gadgets amid the souring relationship between them. After the House of Representatives said it is allegedly part of her obligations to listen to the annual address of the president, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that there is no law that mandates the Filipinos to listen to the SONA of the President.
