Duterte’s Ex-Wife Elizabeth Zimmerman Visits Former President in The Hague

ELIZABETH ZIMMERMAN – The ex-wife of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke her side on the support of the Filipinos to her former husband.

Countless Duterte supporters cried “foul” over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 11 which was followed by the transfer of his custody to the International Criminal Court. Currently, the former President is detained in The Hague, Netherlands.

Amid the criticisms, the Palace clarified that the Philippine authorities acted on the arrest of the former President because of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

Recently, Malacañang also clarified that the government is not directly cooperating with the ICC in its move to ensure the safety of the witnesses against Duterte. The foreign court requested the aid of the Philippine authorities in ensuring the safety of the witnesses in the case against the former President.

Since his first day of detention in The Hague, Netherlands, many Duterte supporters gather outside the detention facility. There are also countless Filipinos in other countries who join the call for the return of the former President to the Philippines.

Not only the Duterte siblings but as well as their mothers, Elizabeth Zimmerman and Honeylet Avanceña, have visited the former President inside the ICC detention facility. Recently, the ex-wife of Duterte relayed the message of the former President to the Filipinos.

Based on a post of News5 on social media, in an interview in The Hague, Elizabeth Zimmerman revealed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte want his supporters to go home. He assured his supporters that he is okay. The former President’s ex-wife also expressed her gratitude to the Filipino people.

“You go home. Thank you for your support. Ako rin nagpapasalamat rin sa inyo for your support… Sabi niya, ‘Mahal ang pamasahe, umuwi ka na… You tell them I am okay,'” Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth Zimmerman admitted that she is personally touched by the support of the Filipino people to former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on the post, she also recalled telling a court that her former husband is a “good leader” but he has a flaw.

“You are so amazing. ‘Yung mga values ninyo, sometimes I cry. ‘Yun bang I can see, your support. Filipino support all over talaga. Actually I told in court, a long long time ago. ‘He is a good leader but there is something wrong, may flaw siya rin,'” the ex-wife of the former President said.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte won mayor in Davao but he has yet to take his oath. His and Elizabeth Zimmerman’s youngest son, Baste Duterte, is currently the acting mayor of Davao City with their grandson as the acting vice mayor.
