Update on Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte ICC Case amid his Continued Detention in The Netherlands
DUTERTE ICC CASE – A prosecutor of the International Criminal Court presented over 1,000 new pieces of evidence against the former Philippine President.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte won mayor in Davao during the 2025 Midterm Elections but he has yet to take his oath due to his detention in The Hague, Netherlands. He is faced with an accusation of crimes against humanity over his administration’s war on drugs.

Due to the inability of Duterte to take his oath, his youngest son who won vice mayor, Baste Duterte, will be the acting mayor of Davao City. Currently, it is more than 100 days now since the former President was arrested by the Philippine authorities who assisted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

The camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has requested the ICC for his interim release to an undisclosed country. However, the Department of Justice immediately showed opposition to it. A resolution urging the House of Representatives to oppose the interim release of the former president was also filed.
Recently, the ICC prosecutor in the case against former Pres. Duterte submitted new pieces of evidence against him. Based on a report on GMA News, it is the 11th batch of evidence against the former Philippine President.

The 11th batch of evidence filed against former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his case before the ICC is composed of more than 1,000 new pieces of evidence. Based on the report, the said evidence against Duterte includes accusations when he was still mayor of Davao City.
Duterte was a former mayor of Davao before he won a landslide victory in the presidential race in 2016. He pushed an anti-drugs campaign. In 2019, he withdrew the country from its membership to the ICC after the foreign court’s attempt to investigate the alleged killings in the drug war of the administration.
The camp of the former President has repeatedly claimed that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines and Duterte. However, the foreign court also previously cited that there are accusations against Duterte when the country was still a member of the ICC.
Amid the detention of his father, Davao Congressman Paolo Duterte stressed that his father gave his life to serving the nation but he is suffering alone now and away from home. According to Cong. Pulong, as a son, the “pain is immeasurable”.
