DOJ SECRETARY – Department of Justice chief Boying Remulla confirmed that he will apply for the position of Ombudsman to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).

A few days after the results of the 2025 Midterm Elections were out, Pres. Bongbong Marcos called for the courtesy resignation of his Cabinet secretaries. It came after the Chief Executive claimed that the outcome of the election showed the disappointment of the Filipinos on the services of the government.

According to Marcos Jr., it is time to align the Philippine government with the demands of the Filipino people. His Cabinet secretaries immediately followed the order of the Chief Executive with many of them thanking the Chief Executive for his trust. The Palace assured that the move will not affect the services to the people.

Malacañang

On the resignation call of Marcos Jr., Malacañang said the President does not want lazy and corrupt officials. Palace press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said it is a chance for the Cabinet secretaries to prove their place in the administration.

Following the performance check, there were government officials who were reshuffled while there are also those who were retained in their positions. DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla is one of those who were retained in their positions.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos retained not only DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla but as well as the Justice Secretary’s brother, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Jonvic Remulla. However, based on a recent statement of the DOJ Chief, he is taking a chance to be the next Ombudsman.

Based on a report on Inquirer, DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla said he will submit his application for Ombudsman to the Judicial and Bar Council before Friday. He believes that he has a lot to offer.

“I’m submitting my application before Friday, I think I have a lot to offer there,” Remulla said.

Based on the announcement of the Judicial and Bar Council, the deadline for the submission of applications for Ombudsman is on July 4. Current Ombudsman Samuel Martires is set to retire on July 27.

Previously, DOJ Chief Boying Remulla was slammed by Harry Roque over his claim that the former spokesman’s asylum bid was allegedly denied by the Netherlands.
