Carla Abellana Complains About Corruption in Real Estate Taxes

Carla Abellana Questions Tax Process in the Philippines

CARLA ABELLANA – The actress shared her frustration on social media regarding what she claims is corruption in the property tax process in the Philippines.

In a series of Instagram Stories, Abellana posted screenshots of a conversation with someone assisting her in processing her real estate documents. The messages revealed that certain officials allegedly offered to lower the declared value of her property in exchange for 60% of the savings from the reduced taxes.

Clearly frustrated, Abellana called out the practice as corruption and expressed disbelief at how openly it was happening. She added a caption saying corruption in the Philippines is “top tier.” She also shared photos of handwritten and typewritten notes showing how much money the officials involved were allegedly planning to pocket.

Feeling confused and upset, she questioned why she had to pay extra just to apply for a tax declaration on her property. She asked why the assessment level was set at 60%, wondering who decided on that percentage and why the tax rate was fixed at 2.5%. Abellana ended her post by asking what people in her situation are supposed to do when corruption happens so openly.

This isn’t the first time Abellana has spoken out about her frustrations. She previously criticized the water supplier PrimeWater, owned by the Villar Group, after they allegedly failed to address her concerns properly. She also complained about Converge ICT, saying she felt frustrated after repeatedly being redirected to bots instead of actual customer service agents.

Meanwhile, Carla Abellana is an actress and model. She comes from a showbiz family—her father is actor Rey “PJ” Abellana, and her grandmother is veteran actress Delia Razon. She began her career as a model before becoming famous in 2009 when she starred in the Philippine adaptation of the popular Mexican drama Rosalinda. Since then, she has starred in several hit TV shows like Basahang Ginto, My Husband’s Lover, Love of My Life, Stolen Life, and Widows’ War.
