Calumpit Mayor’s E-Ayuda for Flood Victims Receives Mixed Reactions

Calumpit Mayor’s E-Ayuda Criticized for Being Selective

LEM FAUSTINO – The Mayor of Calumpit, Bulacan, recently launched “E-Ayuda ni Mayor Lem,” a social media campaign offering financial aid to families affected by flooding caused by ongoing monsoon rains.

The initiative encouraged residents to post a selfie with their family inside their flooded home, along with their full name, barangay, and GCash number, as a comment on the official post. Participants were also required to share the post and tag friends. According to Mayor Lem, the goal was to promote unity and provide quick assistance during this challenging time.

The campaign quickly drew attention—but not all of it was positive. While some praised the effort as creative and helpful, others criticized it for being exclusive. Concerns were raised about families without internet access or smartphones who couldn’t participate, even though they were in need. Some urged the mayor to personally visit affected areas, as she did during the campaign season, and provide direct aid without requiring online involvement.

A few comments supported the mayor, saying her intent to help was clear. However, others felt the initiative seemed more like a social media campaign than genuine relief. One supporter from abroad expressed disappointment, saying the campaign appeared selective and might overlook those most in need.

As of now, Mayor Faustino has not released a statement regarding the feedback. This publication remains open to hearing her side.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is currently experiencing heavy rains and strong winds due to Severe Tropical Storm Emong and Tropical Storm Dante, which are both intensifying the southwest monsoon (Habagat). These storms are causing flooding and landslide threats, especially in parts of Luzon and the Visayas. PAGASA has issued weather alerts and is advising the public to stay safe, monitor updates, and follow local emergency guidelines.
