Bernadette Reyes Addresses Bashers Criticizing Her Reporting Career
Veteran GMA News reporter Bernadette Reyes has spoken up in response to criticism about her career in journalism.
On her Facebook page, Bernadette Reyes shared her personal journey and why she continues to choose public service over higher-paying opportunities. The post elicited various reactions from internet users.
Bernadette revealed that early in her career, when she was earning just P13,000 a month, she was offered a finance job with a salary of P50,000. Despite the tempting offer, she chose to stay in the media, driven by a deeper purpose and the dream to serve.

After her mother passed away, she had to rely on herself and her goals to push forward each day.
In 2018, she passed the Foreign Service Officer exam, a chance to become an ambassador with a much higher salary. She even prepared her resignation letter but never turned it in.
Similar job offers from corporate companies came along, promising better pay and safer conditions, especially compared to covering disasters and emergencies. Still, she chose to stay.

For Reyes, money has never been the main reason to keep going. She values life lessons, the people she’s met, and the stories she’s told in over 20 years of being a reporter.
The reporter admitted it’s hard for some people to understand why she continues to take the tougher path. But she stands firm, saying there are others like her who believe in duty more than salary.
While she knows not everyone will like her, she accepts it with peace, even when met with harsh words.

Despite the criticisms, Bernadette remains committed to serving the public, again and again, for the country.
