Barangay Health Worker in Bulacan Dies After Getting Electrocuted in Flooded Area
MEYCAUAYAN, BULACAN – A barangay health worker who was trying to protect essential medical supplies died of electrocution during a flood.
Over the past few days, tropical depression Dante, a low-pressure area and enhanced southwest monsoon were lashing the country with strong winds and heavy rains. The inclement weather conditions cause massive flooding in various parts of the country.
The victim, identified as 49-year-old Cristina Abisate Padora, was on her way to the barangay health station on Tuesday morning. Concerned about the rising floodwaters, she wanted to make sure that the vaccines and other medical items inside the center were safe and not damaged.

At around 8:18 AM on Wednesday (July 23, 2025), while wading through the flooded area near the health station, Cristina passed under a tent. Unfortunately, she came into contact with a metal pole that was unknowingly connected to a live electrical wire. The shock caused by the electric current took her life on the spot.
The incident shocked the public, especially those who knew Cristina as a hardworking and dedicated health worker. She was simply doing her job, one that put others’ welfare before her own.
According to the Bulacan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the wire was likely exposed or improperly secured, turning the flooded area into a deadly trap. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source and responsibility for the live wire.

The local government of Meycauayan has assured that assistance will be provided to Cristina’s grieving family. Her dedication and sacrifice will not be forgotten, especially by the people she served.
The incident emphasizes the risks faced by frontline workers, even in times of natural disasters.
