Was Katrina Domingo Referring to Nico Waje?
KATRINA DOMINGO – The ABS-CBN reporter faced backlash online after posting a message on social media that some netizens assumed was directed at GMA Integrated News reporter Nico Waje.
On July 24, 2025, Katrina shared advice she received from veteran journalists, stating that reporters should stay grounded and not seek fame. She emphasized that a journalist’s worth should be based on the quality of their work, not their appearance or popularity.
Her post read: “Grateful for veteran & senior journalists who have been reminding us that reporters should never indulge in being treated as celebrities — and that we should focus on our body of work instead of clout. Journalist or not, may we be judged on our substance, not our appearance.”

While some netizens agreed with her message, others believed it was a subtle dig at Nico Waje, who recently went viral for his unique reporting style. Some defended Nico, saying he was simply doing his job well and had no control over his rising popularity. One user even pointed out that it’s often the news outlets that use trending moments for attention—not the reporters themselves.
Katrina later responded, clarifying that she had no issue with Nico and that there was no “bad blood” between them. She acknowledged that journalists have little control over online fame but disagreed with those accusing her of bitterness. She also noted that even some GMA reporters liked and shared her post, highlighting mutual respect within the journalism community.

Despite her clarification, criticism continued. Some netizens accused her of being jealous or seeking attention. Others questioned the timing of her post, suggesting it was made just as Nico was gaining more online visibility.

As of now, Katrina has not released any further statement. It remains unclear whether she chose to stay silent or was advised by her network not to respond. Unfortunately, Nico Waje was dragged into the issue without doing anything wrong.
