Two Men Rescued from QC Drainage During Heavy Rain

Workers Trapped in QC Drainage Saved by Bystanders

QUEZON CITY – Two men were trapped inside a drainage canal in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa during a heavy downpour and were rescued by bystanders and authorities.

The incident began when a concerned resident noticed the two men struggling to stay above water as flood levels quickly rose. Recognizing the urgency, the resident recorded the scene and called for help from nearby individuals.

Bystanders and members of the Quezon City Police District responded immediately. Working together, they managed to pull the two men to safety. The victims were visibly exhausted and struggling to breathe, making the quick response critical to their survival.

According to reports, the men were contractors working underground to repair a damaged pipe when sudden heavy rain flooded the canal. With no safe exit, they shouted for help until someone noticed them. Fortunately, help arrived just in time.

The video of the rescue quickly went viral, and netizens began comparing it to the earlier case of the so-called “Imburnal Girl.” That incident involved a woman who went viral after being filmed emerging from a drainage canal in Makati. Her story spread rapidly online, sparking memes, video edits, and even merchandise.

Despite the humorous tone of many online reactions, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) stepped in to offer her support. The woman, dubbed “Imburnal Girl,” received ₱80,000 to start a small business. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian even considered naming her as an ambassador or honorary social worker. However, during her appearance on Pinoy Pawnstars, it was revealed that she had a history of drug use. The DSWD later offered her further assistance for rehabilitation.
