Tourist Rescued After Attempting to Swim Across Sea to Biliran Island
A tourist touches many hearts after deciding to swim across the sea to Biliran Island after running out of money.
A tourist from Ormoc City made headlines after deciding to swim across the sea from Kawayan to Maripipi Island in Biliran Province because he no longer had money for boat fare.
According to the initial police report, the tourist, identified as Nathan, had planned to spend a vacation on Maripipi Island. However, when he realized he didn’t have enough cash to pay for the boat ride, he chose to swim instead, using a lifebuoy to stay afloat.

Nathan had already swum halfway across the sea when concerned locals spotted him floating and immediately reported it to authorities. A rescue operation was quickly carried out to bring him to safety.
He was pulled out of the water by rescue teams and was given immediate medical assistance to ensure he was in good condition after the exhausting swim.
Following the incident, Nathan decided to cancel his trip to Maripipi Island and return home to Ormoc City instead. He was also provided with financial assistance by the Kawayan Police to help cover his transportation expenses for the trip back.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks people may take when faced with limited options although the situation ended without serious harm. Thankfully, the quick action of local residents and rescuers helped prevent possible tragic incident.
