Top Student Banned by Dad From Live Streaming for Being ‘Too Pretty’

Dad Says No to Daughter’s Live Streaming Because of Her Looks

ZHANG SHENXINRAN – A standout student at China’s top university, Tsinghua, is making headlines again—but this time, not for her academic achievements. Her father, Jiatian, has stopped her from live streaming, saying it’s not appropriate for someone “too pretty.”

Zhang first rose to fame in 2022 after ranking first in China’s gaokao, the national college entrance exam. She became the first person from her small village in Fujian Province to be admitted to Tsinghua University—one of the world’s top engineering schools. To celebrate her success, her family gave her 105,000 yuan (around PHP 831,000), which she generously donated to help underprivileged students in her village.

That act of kindness brought her media attention, but Zhang later chose to step out of the spotlight. Recently, she returned to social media, sharing moments from her life as a third-year student at Tsinghua’s School of Marxism. She occasionally goes live to offer free study tips and advice to younger students. Many admire her for being intelligent, kind, and beautiful—some even say she resembles Chinese actress Chen Duling.

During her livestreams, she encourages students to stay calm while preparing for exams, follow a set study schedule, and stick to their goals. She shared that she studies eight hours a day, reads up to 500 pages a week, and exercises regularly. When asked how she balances her appearance and academics, she said she enjoys dressing up and believes that looking good and doing well in school can go hand in hand.

Her popularity online quickly grew, with thousands watching her livestreams and even companies offering her advertising deals. That’s when her father stepped in. He believes that live streaming is not suitable for someone so attractive and feels that any business effort should be guided properly.

Their story has sparked an online debate. Some say her father is simply being protective, while others believe Zhang is old enough to make her own decisions. Many admire her for being smart, kindhearted, and confident—qualities that continue to inspire others as she pursues her dream of becoming a teacher.
