Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Answer to Senate Impeachment Court’s Summons
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President explained her request for the dismissal of her impeachment case in her response to the Senate impeachment court.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously stressed that the return of Duterte’s impeachment to the House does not equate to a dismissal or termination of the impeachment case. To prove it, the Senate Chief who acts as the presiding officer of the impeachment court said the accused will be sent summons.
The Senate impeachment court ruled to remand the Articles of Impeachment for clarification of its constitutionality as well as to seek a reconfirmation from the 20th Congress. Eighteen (18) senator judges were in favor of the return of Duterte’s impeachment to the House.
Only five (5) senator judges were against the motion to remand Duterte’s impeachment to the House. According to House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the move of the Senate on the return of Duterte’s impeachment is “deeply concerning”. The House Speaker stressed that they acted not out of haste and they followed the Constitution.

Recently, the Vice President responded to the summons sent by the Senate impeachment court. In her response to the summons, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte sought the dismissal of the impeachment case against her. She also called the impeachment case as “nothing more than a scrap of paper”.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she, as a client, has her own desires apart from the desires of her lawyers on her impeachment case. She stressed that she is paying for the professional fees of her lawyers and she does not want to waste money.
“Ang expertise nila na maghanda at magdefend ng impeachment case so as a client hindi ko papairalin yung gusto ko over sa gusto ng abogado because that would mean I would waste my money paying lawyers but not listening to their expert advise. Ayoko magsunog ng pera,” the Vice President said.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also spoke on her travels abroad. Malacañang previously took swipe at the Vice President for her overseas trips to four (4) countries in less than a month.
