SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed she told Senator Imee Marcos that she must be the one to bring her dad, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, home to the Philippines.
Visibly, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos sided with the Duterte family in the issue over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. She previously stressed that she could not accept what was done to the former President. It is no secret to the public that she is close the former President and to his daughter, Vice Pres. Duterte.

During the 2025 Elections campaign period, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that Sen. Imee Marcos is different from her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos. She stressed that the senator does not neglect her promises.

It is no secret to the public that the Vice President and the President are not in good terms and the rift was even more triggered by the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 11. Marcos Jr. was heavily-criticized for allowing the arrest of his predecessor.

The President claimed that the government only acted on its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). Malacañang also defended him from betrayal accusations saying that the government only did its job.

Sen. Imee Marcos left the senatorial slate of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago endorsed by her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, following former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s arrest. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte campaigned for her. She clinched the 12th spot in the Senate Magic 12.
Following the elections, Sen. Imee Marcos joined Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in her trip to The Hague where she met with her dad’s lawyer, British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman. However, the Senator was not allowed to visit former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Recently, Sen. Imee Marcos also joined Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in the Independence Day celebration of the Filipinos in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Based on a post of ABS-CBN News, at the event, the Vice President claimed she told the Senator that she will be the one to bring her father home to the Philippines citing it was her brother who allegedly sent him to The Hague.
“Inimbita ko si Sen. Imee Marcos kung saan man ko pumupunta dinala-dala ko siya kasi sinasabi ko sa kanya, ‘Hindi ako ang magbabalik kay dating Pangulong Duterte sa Pilipinas. Dahil ang kapatid mo ang nagpadala sa kanya sa Hague, ikaw ang magbabalik sa kanya sa Pilipinas,” Vice Pres. Duterte said.

Vice Pres. Duterte also claimed that many overseas Filipino workers could not believe that the Philippine government surrendered its citizen to a foreign entity. According to the Vice President, even if she is not the daughter of former Pres. Duterte and she’s just an ordinary citizen, she would be ashamed of what was done to the former President.
Following her victory in the 2025 Senatorial Elections, Sen. Imee Marcos mentioned former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in her proclamation speech but not Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
