Pura Luka Vega Speaks Out Following Acquittal
PURA LUKA VEGA – The controversial drag artist has released an official statement after being acquitted of the cybercrime case filed against him by the religious group Hijos del Nazareno.
Drag performer Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente, was officially cleared of cybercrime charges related to his viral “Ama Namin” performance. The case was filed by Hijos del Nazareno, who found Vega’s act offensive, where he wore a Jesus-inspired costume while performing a remix of the Lord’s Prayer.
In a 20-page ruling, the Manila Regional Trial Court concluded there was not enough evidence to prove that Vega committed a crime. As a result, he was found not guilty under the Cybercrime Prevention Act (RA 10175).

Following the court’s decision, Vega issued a statement through Rainbow Rights Philippines, where he serves as an advocate. He said the victory was not just personal, but one he dedicates to the entire LGBTQIA+ community. Vega added that while he respects everyone’s right to practice their religion—including those who filed the case—he firmly believes that art and self-expression are vital in a free and democratic society.
He expressed gratitude to those who supported him, including his lawyers, witnesses, drag supporters, and everyone who stood by him during the case. Though the journey was difficult, Vega said he never lost faith in the justice system. “Sa huli, matapang kong masasabing nanaig ang hustisya,” he stated. He also shared that he had already forgiven those who criticized or condemned him.

To his fellow LGBTQIA+ members, Vega offered a message of hope: “Sa true lang, sa mga bakla at naiiba sa lipunan, patuloy tayong lumaban at i-claim naten ang karapatang maging tunay na tayo. Walang kiyeme! At nawa’y iadya natin ang isa’t isa sa lahat ng masama.”
