PNP Chief Torre Orders Police to Stay Fit and Improve Shooting Skills

PNP Chief Torre to Cops: Stay Fit and Be Better Shooters

NICOLAS TORRE III — The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief has issued new orders to ensure that police officers are both physically fit and skilled in using their firearms.

In a press briefing on June 10, 2025, PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo explained that Chief Torre wants officers to maintain a healthy weight so they can perform their duties well, especially in situations that require quick action. “Ayaw niya ng nakakakita na ang taba-taba kasi, kung ang role nga naman ng mga pulis ay tumakbo, paano ka nga naman makakatakbo kung halos hindi mo na mabitbit yung sarili mo?” Fajardo pointed out.

He also said that an officer’s appearance reflects on the entire police force. If an officer appears too big for their uniform, it may send the wrong message to the public about the discipline and readiness of the police.

Aside from fitness, Torre is also focused on improving officers’ shooting skills. He expressed concern that some officers miss their targets even when the target paper is large. “Ang laki-laki ng target paper mo tapos nasa labas lahat ng putok mo, nagmi-miss ka, ay parang hindi naman yata katanggap-tanggap ‘yon bilang pulis po,” Fajardo added.

The PNP Chief also reminded officers that physical fitness is tied to career advancement. Officers who fail the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) twice in a row will not be allowed to receive promotions, as stated in PNP guidelines.

With these new rules, Torre hopes to build a stronger, more capable, and more reliable police force — one that the public can trust to handle any situation with confidence and skill.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Torre III is the current Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Before his appointment, he served in various leadership roles within the PNP, overseeing operations, community relations, and administrative functions. As PNP Chief, he focuses on improving discipline, fitness, and skills among police officers to strengthen public trust.
