Texas Man Finds Out He’s Married — Without Knowing It
TEXAS – A strange and unsettling case made headlines after a man discovered he was legally married without his consent.
The 42-year-old man, who lives in Beverly Hills, Waco, Texas, had just broken up with his ex-fiancée, 36-year-old Kristin Marie Spearman. He shared that they had once planned to get married and had even visited the county clerk’s office to apply for a marriage license. However, things fell apart after a serious argument, and he told Kristin that he no longer wanted to marry her.
Just days after the breakup in June 2025, he received a surprise gift bag from Bath & Body Works. Along with the usual items was something shocking—a certified marriage license dated June 13, 2025, showing that they were officially married. There was also a photo of Kristin proudly holding the document.
When he checked the official records, he was stunned to learn that the marriage had been filed with the county clerk. Normally in Texas, both parties must appear in person with valid ID to apply for a marriage license. In this unusual case, Kristin allegedly found a local pastor who agreed to officiate the marriage—even though the groom wasn’t present. She then submitted the signed license to the clerk’s office as if everything was legal.
The man immediately reported the incident to the police. Beverly Hills Police Chief Kory Martin said he was shocked as well, noting that in his 23 years in law enforcement, he had never seen anyone get married without being present.
Kristin Marie has been arrested and charged with third-degree felony stalking. She is currently in custody. The pastor involved has not yet released a statement. Meanwhile, the man is working to annul the marriage and says he is concerned for his safety and the possibility that Kristin could gain legal rights to his property due to the unexpected and unauthorized marriage.
