Imee Marcos on Impeachment Robe: “Pero kami, mga pasaway ni Robin, hindi kami nagsuot… Pangit”

Sen. Imee Marcos Speaks on Not Wearing Impeachment Robe during Senate Legal Process

IMEE MARCOS – The Senator revealed why she and fellow Duterte-ally and Sen. Robin Padilla ditched the wearing of the impeachment robe.

Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel and fellow opposition Sen. Risa Hontiveros moved last Monday so Senate President Chiz Escudero could perform his oath-taking as the presiding officer of the impeachment court. It happened a few days after the Senate President moved the schedule for the reading of the articles of impeachment from June 2 to June 11.

Hontiveros was hopeful that the 3 days left might mean something with the decision of the Senate Minority to make a move. The following day since the Senate President took an oath, the rest of the senators also took their oath as senator-judges of the impeachment court in Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s trial.

The senators, except for three (3) of them, wore their impeachment robes. Senators Imee Marcos, Robin Padilla, and Cynthia Villar ditched the wearing of their impeachment robes. They were seated at the back area. Then, it was not clear why they refused to wear their impeachment robes but they’re known as close allies of the Duterte family.

Sen. Robin Padilla even filed a resolution seeking to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as per Sen. Imee Marcos. Prior to the start of the trial, Sen. Robin Padilla also reiterated his loyalty to the Duterte family. According to him, if he will be burnt, he would smell like former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Recently, Senators Imee Marcos and Robin Padilla joined the Philippine Independence Day celebration in Malaysia with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and the Filipino community abroad. At the event, based on a report on GMA News, the Presidential Sister spoke on her and Padilla ditching the wearing of the impeachment robes.

Sen. Imee Marcos vocally called the impeachment robe “ugly” as per the report. According to her, the color is also not her type. She recognized that she and Sen. Padilla went against what was mandated of them.

“Tumayo kami bilang hukom at nagsuot ng damit bilang hukom. Nakita siguro ng iba sa inyo. Pero kami, mga pasaway ni Robin, hindi kami nagsuot. Ayaw namin nun, pangit. It’s not my color,” the Senator said.

At the same event, Sen. Robin Padilla called Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as “the next president of the Philippines”. It elicited cheers from the audience chanting, “Duterte” — which the Senator said makes him even braver.

Sen. Imee Marcos seconded Padilla’s statement about bravery. Marcos also joked about Padilla almost hitting their fellow senator, Joel Villanueva, and she also mentioned that she shouted at Sen. Risa Hontiveros.

“Maisug kami talaga,” the Senator said.
