Content Creator Expresses Disappointment Over Earnings from a Viral Video
FEDERIC BAROZA ALCAIDE – A content creator known for producing videos under the category often referred to as poverty p*rn shared his frustration over the lack of returns from his efforts.
Despite reaching two million views on one of his videos — which featured him helping someone in need — Federic revealed that he earned very little from it. This led him to question whether continuing to create this type of content is still worth the time, money, and energy he invests.
In his post, Federic expressed his disappointment: “2million views ito lang kinita,,,Grabe na ito, nakakadismaya na gumawa ng content.gumagastos ka inuubos mo Oras mo kagagawa ng content pero ito lang kikitain mo.” He went on to ask how smaller creators must feel — those whose videos barely reach 1,000 views. If his highly viewed content couldn’t generate a decent income, what hope is there for others?

Meanwhile, poverty p*rn refers to content that showcases the struggles and suffering of poor individuals, often in an overly emotional or dramatic way, to attract attention, views, or donations. This type of content is commonly seen on social media or in fundraising campaigns, where creators highlight extreme poverty to trigger sympathy and engagement from audiences.

While some may argue that it raises awareness, poverty p*rn is often criticized for being exploitative. It tends to reduce real people and their complex lives to a simple, sad story used mainly for profit or personal gain. In many cases, only a small amount of help is given to those featured, while the creators may earn significantly more through views or sponsorships. The main concern is whether the intention is truly to help or simply to benefit from someone else’s hardship. True compassion should uplift people — not use their pain as a tool for popularity.
