Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Claims Davao LGU Never Dependent on National Coffers
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that the local government of Davao can survive without budget from the national government.
Undeniably, the most popular political clan in Davao City is the Duterte family. They are also among the most popular people in the Philippines. Several members of the Duterte family won in the 2025 Election, thus, they held a meeting for a thanksgiving after the midterm polls.

Despite his detention in The Hague, Netherlands, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte won mayor in Davao City. Davao City First District Congressman Paolo “Pulong” Duterte was reelected and outgoing Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte won as vice mayor in the city.
Congressman Pulong’s son, Omar Duterte, will join him in the House of Representatives after winning as Davao City Second District Representative. The Congressman’s other son, Rigo, will join his uncle Baste at the city hall after he was elected as Davao City councilor with the highest votes. Despite the presence of many of their family members in the government, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously claimed that she will support an anti-political dynasty law.

Vice Pres. Duterte claimed that she is the most credible to speak about political dynasty in the Philippines as she came from it. According to her, she is willing to write a bill to ban political dynasty in the country. Her statement gained different reactions from the Filipino people.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the local government of Davao City can survive even without the budget from the national government. Based on a report on Manila Standard, the Vice President stressed that the city has never been dependent on the national coffers and can still push through with its programs even without relying on the national budget.
According to Vice Pres. Duterte, even during her time as the mayor of Davao, she has never asked money from a senator or congressman. She stressed to local media reporters that the Davao City LGU has its own resources that can pay for its debts.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterete is faced with a looming impeachment trial. She was impeached by the House of Representatives last February. A known Duterte ally, Senator Bato dela Rosa, is confident that Vice Pres. Duterte will be acquitted but he refused to name the senators who are planning to acquit the Vice President.
