Votes for Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte w/ Huge Gap From Fellow Contenders in Davao Race for Mayor

RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former President is set to win the mayoralty race in Davao City based on the results of the initial tally.

Amid his detention in The Hague, Netherlands, former Pres. Duterte is a candidate for mayor in Davao City where he has served several terms as its chief executive before he won president. His running mate is his youngest son, outgoing Davao Mayor Baste Duterte.

A few days after he was arrested and sent to The Hague, the Commission on Elections or Comelec previously clarified that Duterte remains a mayoralty candidate despite his arrest and detention in the Netherlands. According to the poll body, he may even be proclaimed.

Currently, the counting of votes is ongoing in the different municipalities, cities, and provinces as well as the for the senatorial race. Based on a report on Inquirer, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is set to win for Davao Mayor.

With 74% of the election results transmitted, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte earned 619,899 votes while his closest rival, former Civil Service Commission Chair Karlo Nograles, got 76,349. Recently, the camp of former Pres. Duterte admitted that they are already studying the options for his oath-taking if he wins Davao Mayor.
