President Marcos Appoints Nicolas Torre as New PNP Head
NICOLAS TORRE III – The Police Major General has been officially appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), according to Malacañang.
Before his appointment, Torre led several high-profile operations, including the arrest of televangelist Apollo Quiboloy in Davao City. As head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), he also served an arrest warrant to former President Rodrigo Duterte, based on charges from the International Criminal Court.
Torre is a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class of 1993 and has served in various key positions throughout his career. These include leadership roles in the Quezon City Police District, the Davao Region Police, the Samar Provincial Police Office, and the police stations of Batangas City and Mabalacat. His background in both intelligence work and field operations—especially in Central Luzon and MIMAROPA—adds to his well-rounded experience in law enforcement.

Born in Jolo, Sulu, on March 11, 1970, Torre rose through the ranks over the years, gaining a reputation for taking on difficult and controversial assignments. One of the more notable moments in his career was during his term as Quezon City police chief, which drew both praise and criticism—particularly for how he handled a press conference involving a controversial road rage incident.
In 2024, he was reassigned to the Davao Regional Police Office, where he led the high-profile raid on Quiboloy’s compound. The operation turned into a standoff, sparking national debate. Despite the challenges, Torre remained firm, emphasizing the importance of enforcing the law, regardless of who is involved.

Following that, he was appointed as CIDG chief, where he oversaw sensitive operations, including the execution of the ICC’s arrest warrant against Duterte.
Now as PNP chief, Torre is expected to apply his extensive experience and strong commitment to law enforcement at the national level, continuing his efforts to fight crime and uphold public safety across the country.
