Sen. Imee Marcos Explains Why She Won’t Change her Last Name
IMEE MARCOS – The Senator spoke on the joke of Vice President Sara Duterte during a campaign rally asking her to change her last name.
Amid the feud between her and Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is endorsing the candidacy of his sister, Sen. Marcos. The Vice President is also endorsing the senatorial candidacies of Las Piñas Congresswoman Camille Villar, the daughter of business tycoon Manny Villar, and the PDP Laban candidates.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte first endorsed Sen. Imee Marcos through the viral “ITIM” campaign ad. In the said campaign ad, the Vice President expressed that black is allegedly the current color of the country due to hunger and criminality. The Senator added that the country is allegedly hungry not only for food but as well as justice.

Senator Imee previously stressed that the campaign ad is not a reward. Following the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the Senator led a Senate investigation on the arrest of the former President. She also left the Alyansa Para sa Pagbabago led by the President.

On leaving Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ Alyansa, Sen. Imee Marcos claimed that the recent actions of the government does not match her ideals and beliefs in life. According to her, she would just campaign with her friends who are candidates in the local elections.
Recently, Sen. Marcos joined the campaign sorties of Manila mayoralty candidate Isko Moreno. Vice Pres. Duterte also joined the campaign rally. At the event, she joked on the Senator to change her last name. It was followed by another jest that she will be a Romualdez if she will do so. The jokes of the Vice President earned laughter from the Senator and the people at the rally.
Based on a post on Facebook, Sen. Imee Marcos was seriously asked about Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s remarks telling her to change her last name. According to the Senator, she will not do so.
“Sa palagay ko hindi ako dapat magpalit kasi tapat ako sa turo ng aking ama,” the Senator said based on the post.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte endorsed Sen. Imee Marcos in several campaign sorties and even said she’s different from Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Previously, the Vice President affirmed that her friendship with the Senator remains amid the political turmoil.
