P49K Tuition Stolen from Bacolod Student in Street Robbery
BACOLOD CITY – A graduating student fell victim to a terrifying robbery, losing P49,000—money intended to pay for her and her cousin’s tuition. The incident occurred near Colegio de San Agustin along 18th Lacson Street as the student, identified only as “Inday” for her safety, was returning to her dormitory after buying food.
According to Inday, she was walking alone when a man suddenly approached her on a curved section of the road. The suspect, who wore a black cap and a surgical mask to conceal his face, grabbed her and pointed a knife at her chest. He demanded she hand over her belongings, using the Hiligaynon phrase “Dal-a di,” meaning “Give it to me.” Shocked and terrified, Inday was unable to call for help. The man quickly snatched her plastic bag—which contained her dinner, some groceries, and her wallet holding the P49,000—before fleeing the scene.

The money had just been sent to her to pay for both her and her cousin’s tuition, making the incident not only traumatic but also a serious setback to their education. After the robbery, Inday called her parents to inform them of what happened. She shared that she often uses that street as a shortcut to her dormitory and had never faced any danger before. She also explained that she had to carry the large amount of cash due to tuition deadlines and limited options for money transfers.

Following the incident, Inday promptly went to Bacolod Police Station 2 to report the crime. In her statement, she appealed for increased patrols in the area—either by police officers or barangay watchmen—to help prevent similar incidents in the future. The robbery has left her shaken and uncertain about how she and her cousin will cover their school fees, but she remains hopeful that the authorities will take action to improve safety for students and residents alike.
