Former ABS-CBN Head Ging Reyes Responds to Sol Aragones and Marcoleta’s Photo
GING REYES – The retired head of ABS-CBN’s Integrated News and Current Affairs, shared a Facebook post that quickly captured the attention of netizens.
In her post, she expressed frustration over a recent photo of Sol Aragones, a former ABS-CBN news reporter and now a Laguna representative, raising the hand of Rodante Marcoleta, a SAGIP party-list representative and senatorial candidate. Marcoleta was a key figure in opposing ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, a decision that ultimately led to the network’s shutdown in 2020.
Reyes shared a screenshot from a post on X (formerly Twitter) that displayed the controversial image of Sol Aragones raising Marcoleta’s hand. The caption of the post included a pointed message: “Hindi ka ba nandiring itaas ang kamay ng taong nasa forefront ng pagtutol sa renewal ng franchise ng mother network mo?” It also remarked, “Ang bilis makalimot ng pulitiko ‘no?”

Her post was especially sentimental, as it coincided with May 5, the fifth anniversary of the denial of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, a decision that came amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In her message, Reyes noted, “For me and thousands of kapamilya, marking 5 years since ABS-CBN’s broadcast shutdown brings back painful memories. That wound was deep.”

Marcoleta, who was instrumental in blocking the network’s franchise renewal, has faced harsh reactions from the public, especially from those who feel betrayed by politicians who seem to abandon their previous principles once in power. Some comments from netizens included, “Sol Aragones? Sad.” Others criticized her for prioritizing personal gain over integrity, saying, “obviously, mas importante sa kanya ang sikmura niya. Nakikita mo talaga ang prinsipyo ng tao kapag nasa harapan niya ang ginto at kapangyarihan..”
As of now, Sol Aragones has not responded to these comments or Reyes’ post.
