Erwin Tulfo to Convince Relatives to Quit Politics if Anti-Dynasty Law is Enacted

If Anti-Dynasty Bill Becomes Law, Erwin Tulfo Will Ask Family to Leave Politics

ERWIN TULFO – The senatorial candidate has made a bold statement, expressing full support for the proposed law banning political dynasties in the Philippines.

In a recent interview with INQToday on Wednesday evening, Tulfo said he is willing to resign from office should the anti-political dynasty bill be passed into law. He also pledged to convince his family members currently in politics to step down and comply with the new law.

“I will be supporting [it]… If need be, I will co-author, and if passed, I will resign,” Tulfo declared. He emphasized that he would not hesitate to urge his brother, Senator Raffy Tulfo, and other relatives in politics to follow the law. “Let’s give them a chance,” he added, pointing to the need to break the dominance of political families and make way for new leaders.

As of the latest count by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Tulfo ranks fourth in the senatorial race with 16,815,945 votes. Despite facing disqualification issues earlier in February, Tulfo remains firm in his position against political dynasties.

Earlier this year, Tulfo and former Senator Panfilo Lacson expressed disappointment over Congress’s failure to pass the bill. Both highlighted the importance of addressing political dynasties, which they believe have long harmed the country’s democratic system.

Meanwhile, Erwin Tulfo, a former journalist known for his hard-hitting style and commitment to exposing corruption, previously served as Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Now running for the Senate, his support for the anti-dynasty law surprised many, given the Tulfo family’s influence in both media and politics. His statement signals a rare stance among political figures and has sparked discussions on the future of political families in the country.
