Palace denies Hand of Pres. Bongbong Marcos over Postponement of VP Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Process
BONGBONG MARCOS – Amid the rumors, Malacañang claimed that the President wants the impeachment process of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to proceed.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero announced that the impeachment proceedings of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will be moved to a later date. According to the chief of the upper chamber, from June 2, the presentation of the articles of impeachment by the House of Representatives’ prosecution team will be postponed to June 11.

Duterte was impeached by the lower chamber last February 5 amid the pronouncement of Pres. Bongbong Marcos that he does not want an impeachment. According to him, it will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Two-thirds of the lawmakers in the House signed the impeachment rap against Duterte. One of them is presidential son and Ilocos Norte Congressman Sandro Marcos. Malacañang previously stressed multiple times that the President will not meddle in the impeachment trial of Duterte.

According to Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the proceedings for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will be rescheduled due to the legislative agenda of the Congress. The Senate Chief claimed that the Senate and the House of Representatives still have several measures to pass before the 19th Congress ends on June 14.
Furthermore, Escudero cited that the Commission on Appointments still have to review 277 presidential appointees aside from the appointment of new Cabinet secretaries. Marcos Jr. recently ordered his Cabinet secretaries to tender their courtesy resignation as he wants a revamp in the administration.
However, there are also speculations and rumors that Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly had a say on the resetting of the impeachment trial proceeding against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The rumors came after the President admitted that he is open to reconcile with the Duterte family prior to the postponement of the impeachment process.
Recently, Malacañang denied the speculations that Pres. Bongbong Marcos had a hand on the postponement of the impeachment process against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN news, the Palace admitted that while the Chief Executive will not meddle in the trial, he wants the process to be pushed through.
“Hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo patungkol po diyan pero sinabi po niya na dapat umandar ang proseso,” Palace press officer Atty. Claire Castro said.
Based on the report, the Malacañang official also denied that the impeachment trial of Duterte was part of the discussions during the 8th Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting.
Previously, following the remarks of some Duterte allies on his “reconciliation” statement, Pres. Bongbong Marcos asserted that there must be no conditions for reconciliation.
