Pres. Bongbong Marcos Speaks on Impeachment Trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte
BONGBONG MARCOS – The Philippine President reiterated that he does not want Vice Pres. Sara Duterte impeached.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5. Two-thirds of the lawmakers in the lower chamber including presidential son and Ilocos Norte Congressman Sandro Marcos signed the impeachment rap versus Duterte.
Amid the looming impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously called on the senators not to give a stand. The Senate Chief stressed that they are having a higher level of preparation for the impeachment trial.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos is undeniably accused of being allegedly behind the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte despite his previous pronouncement. He previously stressed that an impeachment won’t benefit any Filipino and will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The Duterte camp claimed that the Marcos administration allegedly wants the Vice President removed from office. According to Vice Pres. Duterte, she has already accepted whether she will be acquitted or found guilty in the impeachment trial.
Recently, during an interview with the press in Kuala Lumpur, Pres. Bongbong Marcos was asked about the impending impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he reiterated his previous stand that he does not want the impeachment of the Vice President.
“How many times do I have to say that? I didn’t want impeachment. Lahat ng kakampi ko sa Kongreso hindi nag-file ng impeachment complaint,” he expressed.
According to Marcos Jr., those who signed the impeachment rap against Duterte were the ones that he cannot dictate on what to do. He stressed that it is now up to the legislators to decide on the proceedings.
“Why do I have to keep explaining that I didn’t want impeachment?” Marcos said.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos further expressed that the senators and the lawmakers of the House will handle the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on the report, the President believes that the lawmakers have yet to decide on the issue.
“Nasa kanila ‘yan eh. Mostly sa Senado, pero siyempre nandiyan pa rin ang House dahil sila mag-prosecute. So, they will have to decide between the two houses how they are going to conduct this,” he said.
