Malacañang Says VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial Not in Hands of Pres. Bongbong Marcos but Senate
BONGBONG MARCOS – Malacañang insisted that the President will not interfere with the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
It is no secret to the public that there is an ongoing feud between Pres. Marcos and Vice Pres. Duterte. The Filipino populace noticed it since the Vice President left the Marcos cabinet as well as the Department of Education (DepEd). She remains faced with issues surrounding the budget of DepEd and the Office of the Vice President (OVP) for more than a year now.

Amid the ongoing feud between the two (2) highest officials in the executive department of the government, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte campaigned on the Filipinos not to vote for the candidates of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, They campaigned different sets of senatorial candidates in the recent elections.

When she returned to the Philippines from The Hague where former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is currently detained, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte met with her lawyers amid the looming impeachment trial against her. The Vice President was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5.

The Duterte camp repeatedly claimed that the Marcos administration is allegedly behind her impeachment. According to her, her legal team is more than confident to win the impeachment trial and she is confident with the capabilities of her lawyers.
Recently, Malacañang reiterated its previous claim that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is not in the hands of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Palace stressed that the impeachment trial is in the hands of the Senate and the President will not interfere.
“‘Yang usapin na ‘yan ay nasa Senado na at hindi makikialam ang Pangulo kung ano ang magaganap dyan. Pero syempre ang hiling natin lahat ay gampanan ng mga senador ang kanilang mga obligasyon, hindi lang para sa isang tao kundi obligasyon sa bayan at sa kababayan natin,” Malacañang press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro told TeleRadyo Serbisyo.

Based on the report, Castro further stressed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos will not have a hand in the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte regardless of who won as congressmen or senators in the recent polls. The Malacañang press officer highlighted that Marcos Jr. only wants to abide by the laws and who should be acquitted must be acquitted and who should be held accountable must be held accountable.
“Tingnan na lang natin. Kung sino siguro ang dapat managot, dapat managot. Kung sino ‘yung dapat ma-acquit ay dapat ma-acquit. Basta ang pangulo ay para sa batas. Kung ano ‘yung naaayon sa batas, ‘yun ang dapat sundin,” she expressed.
Previously, amid the feud between her and the President and the issue surrounding the P20 per kilo rice, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte confirmed that the P20 per kilo rice campaign promise of Pres. Bongbong Marcos is “doable” but she will not help the President.
