Child Dies After Touching Live Charger in Cadiz City
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – A young girl tragically died after being electrocuted by a cellphone charger in Brgy. Mabini, Cadiz City.
According to the police chief, the victim, aged six, touched the plug of the charger in their room and was electrocuted. She was later declared dead at the hospital. At the time of the incident, the girl was alone at home, as her parents were at work.
If someone is electrocuted, it’s crucial to act quickly but safely. The first thing you should do is ensure your own safety. Never attempt to touch the victim if they are still in contact with the electrical source, as you risk electrocution yourself. If it’s safe to do so, immediately turn off the power supply by unplugging the device or switching off the circuit breaker. If you cannot reach the power source, use a non-conductive object, such as a wooden broomstick or a dry rubber object, to move the person away from the electrical source.

Once the person is no longer in contact with electricity, assess their condition. Check if they are breathing and have a pulse. If they are not breathing or don’t have a pulse, begin CPR immediately, if you’re trained, or follow the emergency operator’s instructions until professional help arrives.
While waiting for medical help, cover any burns or injuries with a clean, non-stick bandage. Be careful not to apply ice, ointments, or other substances to the burn. Keep the victim as still and calm as possible, and reassure them that help is on the way. If they regain consciousness, encourage them to remain calm and avoid unnecessary movement.

Remember, electrocution can sometimes cause internal injuries that might not be immediately visible, so even if the person seems okay, they should always be checked by a healthcare professional. Quick action in these situations can save lives, and it’s always better to err on the side of caution.
