Truck Carrying Helicopter Causes Heavy Traffic on EDSA

Low Bridge Halts Truck with Helicopter on EDSA

EDSA – A truck carrying a helicopter caused heavy traffic after it got stuck under a bridge early Sunday morning. The truck was headed to EDSA-Muñoz but couldn’t pass under the EDSA-Balintawak bridge because the helicopter it was carrying would hit the bridge.

The unexpected blockage led to a buildup of vehicles in the area as the driver was forced to make several attempts to maneuver the truck away from the low clearance. These repeated adjustments caused significant delays to early morning traffic, which is usually light at that time.

Eventually, the truck driver found an alternative route to avoid further traffic issues. Authorities have not released a statement, but the situation raised concerns about proper route planning and transportation safety regulations.

EDSA, short for Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, is one of the busiest and most essential roads in Metro Manila. Spanning around 24 kilometers, it connects major cities like Caloocan, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Makati, and Pasay. Every day, thousands of vehicles—including private cars, motorcycles, buses, and trucks—use EDSA, often resulting in severe traffic, especially during rush hours.

Due to this congestion, the government has implemented traffic regulations to ensure order and safety. Certain vehicles are restricted from using EDSA at specific times, including large or heavy trucks (especially without permits), vehicles with oversized or tall cargo such as construction equipment, and small vehicles like tricycles and pedicabs.

Authorities enforce these rules to prevent disruptions and accidents. When oversized vehicles attempt to pass through restricted areas—such as in the recent case of the truck carrying a helicopter—traffic slows down even more. Incidents like this highlight the importance of following road rules and planning safe routes ahead of time.
