Office of VP Sara Duterte Confirms her Arrival in the Philippines
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President is now back in the Philippines after more than three (3) weeks of stay in The Hague for former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
Following the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Vice Pres. Duterte immediately flew to The Hague, Netherlands to support her father whose custody was transferred to the International Criminal Court. The former President is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity before the ICC.

According to the Vice President, she was the only one among their family who has a Schengen Visa and is a lawyer. Amid the request of her father to return to the country immediately, the VP said she will set the legal team of her father before heading home to the country. Recently, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s lead counsel, Nicholas Kaufman, confirmed that Duterte’s legal counsels have been finalized and Harry Roque is not part of the team.

Former presidential spokesman Harry Roque hoped to be part of Duterte’s legal team, thus, he asked for Kaufman to be allowed to visit Duterte as a potential counsel. However, prior to it, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stressed that they want the lawyers in the former presidents team to really be focusing on the case of her father. She stressed that Roque must focus on his application for asylum first.

Recently, the office of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte confirmed her arrival from The Hague, Netherlands where she stayed for more than three weeks for her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, the OVP said that “the Vice President is expected to address any pertinent matters in the coming days”.
The Vice President reportedly arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 9:56 p.m. via Emirates Airlines flight no. EK 334. Before returning to the country, Duterte previously thanked Pres. Bongbong Marcos for her renewed relationship with her father.

According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, she and former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte had the time to talk about life and their family which she did not have growing up as he was busy for the country. However, after the President expressed his gladness to have helped, Duterte claimed that Marcos Jr. did not understand it’s sarcasm.
Back in the Philippines, Duterte is expected to face an impeachment trial which was tentatively scheduled to start in July. According to a member of the House Prosecutor team, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s personal appearance during her impeachment trial will mean a lot although she is not mandated to really attend the trial.
