Mike Arroyo to Undergo Major Surgery, While Son Mikey Battles Cancer

Gloria Arroyo Seeks Prayers for Her Family Amid Health Challenges

ARROYO FAMILY – Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has asked for prayers for her family as they go through a challenging time.

She revealed that her husband, Mike, will undergo major surgery in Singapore due to the expansion of his dissecting aortic aneurysm. This condition, which required emergency repair in 2007, has worsened, making a procedure—combining a bypass and an aortoplasty—necessary on April 7 to prevent another emergency.

In addition to her husband’s health concerns, she shared that their son, Mikey, has been diagnosed with Stage 1 thyroid cancer. He underwent surgery on March 18, which was thankfully successful.

Adding to their difficulties, she also mourned the passing of Paowee Tantoco, the husband of their niece, Dina. The ex-president mentioned that Dina spent the first four years of her life in their home, making the loss even more personal for their family.

As she prepares to travel to Singapore for Mike’s surgery, Arroyo has been dedicating time to her constituents in Pampanga. She expressed gratitude for the support and ended her message with a heartfelt request: “Please pray for my family.”

Meanwhile, the Arroyo family is a well-known political family in the Philippines, with several members serving in government over the years. The most prominent figure is Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who served as President of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010 and is now a congresswoman representing Pampanga. She is the daughter of former President Diosdado Macapagal, making her part of a political dynasty.

Her husband, Mike, is a lawyer and businessman who was actively involved during her presidency. Their eldest son, Mikey, is a former congressman who was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 thyroid cancer. Their other son, Diosdado “Dato” Arroyo, also served as a congressman in Camarines Sur. Meanwhile, their only daughter, Evangelina Lourdes “Luli” Arroyo-Bernas, chose to stay out of politics and focused on public service and academics.
