Narcos Star Manuel Masalva Hospitalized After PH Trip
MANUEL MASALVA – The Mexican actor known for his role as Ramón Arellano Félix in the popular series Narcos: Mexico is currently in a medically induced coma due to a severe bacterial infection.
The 34-year-old actor began experiencing internal pain and discomfort after a recent vacation in the Philippines, where he visited the beaches of Palawan. He later flew to Dubai, arriving on March 18. Just two days after his arrival, his condition began to worsen.
According to his manager, Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa, Masalva’s pain intensified daily until doctors identified a bacterial infection and rushed him into emergency surgery on March 26. Unfortunately, the following day, the infection spread to his lungs, prompting doctors to place him in a medically induced coma to stabilize his condition. He remains in critical but stable condition in a hospital in Dubai.

Doctors have since identified the bacteria and administered the appropriate antibiotics. Espinosa also shared a bit of hope, saying Masalva’s lungs have started to respond positively, with his respirator level reduced to 80%.
Masalva’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the high cost of his medical treatment abroad. The campaign has raised over 1 million Mexican pesos (approximately ₱2.9 million). Fellow actor and close friend Mario Morán took to social media to appeal for support, saying that Masalva is “fighting for his life far from home.” He described the actor as strong, young, and healthy, and expressed confidence in his recovery.

Support continues to pour in from fans, friends, and the public, with many offering prayers and donations. Masalva’s current health crisis has raised concern not only for his well-being but also for the difficulties of facing medical emergencies while overseas. Meanwhile, in addition to Narcos: Mexico, Masalva has appeared in other well-known series such as The Secret of the Greco Family and La Guzmán.
