Amid the Issues, Malacañang Speaks on P20 Per Kilo Rice Sale in Visayas
Malacañang Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro stressed that there is no politics on the P20 per kilo rice sale in Visayas.
The victory of Pres. Bongbong Marcos in the 2022 Elections brought the hopes of many Filipino up with regards to affordable rice options. Rice is a staple food in the Philippines, thus, lower costs of rice will benefit many people in the country.

However, two (2) years have passed without the realization of the campaign promise of Marcos Jr. to reduce the costs of rice to P20 per kilo. Amid their rift, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte urged the public to demand the fulfillment of the P20 per kilo rice” campaign promise of Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Recently, Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. announced that P20 per kilo rice sale will be implemented in the Visayas. According to the Agriculture Secretary, it is because of the excess NFA rice in the region.

The announcement of the DA received different reactions from the people. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also reacted to the P20 per kilo rice sale in Visayas. According to the Vice President, it is allegedly another way of the government to fool the people.
Vice Pres. Duterte also expressed her doubts on the alleged intention of the government over the P20 per kilo rice sale in Visayas. According to the Vice President, it is implemented in Visayas despite that there is a nationwide wide for affordable rice. She claimed that they might have a problem with the votes in Visayas.
Previously, Malacañang responded to the claim of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte over the P20 per kilo rice sale in Visayas. The Palace called on the Vice President to avoid exhibiting crab mentality. Palace press officer Atty. Claire Castro claimed that affordable rice has long been an aspiration of Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Recently, Malacañang spoke anew on the P20 per kilo rice sale in Visayas. Based on a report on GMA News, Palace press officer Atty. Claire Castro denied that the program has something to do with politics.
”Walang puli-pulitika dito,” the Malacañang Press Officer said.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously stressed that the P20 per kilo rice must be fit for human consumption. The Agriculture Department was “deeply hurt” by her statement.
