Former Beauty Queen Among Those Killed in Myanmar Earthquake

Miss Tourism Myanmar 2018 Found Dead After Earthquake

SILIMEE – The 2018 Miss Tourism Myanmar was among the victims found in the rubble of the Sky Villa condominium building in Mandalay, Myanmar, following a devastating earthquake on March 28, 2025.

The 12-story building collapsed due to the powerful earthquake, which also caused significant damage and loss of life in Myanmar and neighboring Thailand. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, has already claimed the lives of over 3,000 people, and 341 individuals remain missing. Additionally, more than 4,700 people have been injured.

Silimee’s tragic death was confirmed by the Miss Tourism Myanmar organization. Her lifeless body was discovered under the collapsed Sky Villa building on April 2. In 2018, Silimee represented Myanmar in the Miss Tourism World pageant. Her untimely death has deeply saddened her supporters and the organization.

Among those still missing are Filipino music teacher Edsil Jess Adalid and his wife, Alexis Gale. Like Silimee, the couple resided in the Sky Villa building. While their personal belongings have been found, rescue teams have not yet located their bodies. Edsil’s younger brother, Dehm Howard Adalid, expressed his family’s worry, noting that they have not received any updates, but they continue to hold on to hope. “We still believe in miracles, Lord,” Dehm said, holding onto faith despite the uncertainty.

Edsil and Alexis moved to Myanmar in 2023 to work at the Mandalay International School of Acumen. Their family, particularly Edsil’s mother, Hermosila Adalid, is fervently praying for their safe return. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Hermosila pleaded for a miracle, asking for God’s guidance for the rescue teams. “Lord, give us a miracle. We pray that they are still alive. Lead the rescue team to search for them without hindrance. Jesus, I trust in you,” she wrote, continuing to trust in the power of faith during this difficult time.
