Ken happened to be seated near the counter, close enough to overhear a quiet conversation between a manager and one of the crew members.

The crew had forgotten to arrange the chairs after customers left. Instead of scolding or showing frustration, the manager pointed it out gently. There was no shouting, no blaming, just a calm and friendly reminder.

The crew member apologized, clearly feeling bad, but the manager responded with a smile and even gave another simple task to focus on, like wiping down the tables. The manager shows that the true leadership can look be firm but kind, and always respectful.

May kwento ako. I was at McDonald’s CM Recto Lipa last night. It was clear that the day had been long. Alam mong pagod na ang lahat that time, especially the crew and managers who had been on their feet for hours.

I wasn’t too far from the counter para marinig ang maliit na usapan ng manager at ng isang crew. The manager was gently pointing out a task that hadn’t been done, something the crew had missed. “Hindi mo nai-ipod ang mga upuan.” But what struck me wasn’t the mistake, it was the tone. Hindi ko alam kong bago yung crew pero the manager smiled as she spoke, casually, with warmth and lightness in her voice.

The crew member apologized, but the manager just smiled again, brushing it off with encouragement rather than blame. “Aysya, punasan mo na lang yung mga lamesa.” In that brief moment, I saw something worth admiring leadership that builds rather than breaks.

It reminded me that we all carry weight in this fast-paced, buzzing world. And while we can’t always make things easy, choice natin ito to make them lighter. Sometimes, a calm voice, a gentle tone, or a little kindness can be the nudge someone needs to grow not with pressure, but with purpose.

It might not work for every situation, but more often than not, compassion can go a long way.

Kudos kay Mam manager!”
